Zipair is making it a norm, and Cathay is allowing only one. I dont OP is making it a big deal, but to be clear on details.

@serra Your title says from Los Angeles to Okinawa, Japan but your detail says to Hanoi, Vietnam. Can you clarify what the deal is for?

2 free checked bags is not a perk! It's the same as always. Stop acting like this is a big deal. 2- 50 lb bags has always been included on all international flights to Asia. It's only recently that airline sellers try to change this and make you think charging for it is normal practice. Here's a gold tip: If an A380, book the top because there are less passengers overall and less passengers per sq/ft. The same seating is available on both levels. The bottom is a hellhole.

You are a step behind. These days, an international flight to include free 2 check-in bags is not normal, even for a flight from the US to Japan. I am flying to Japan in October and my United basic economy only includes one check-in luggage. I have seen many very cheap Air Canada and American Airline flights to Japan have 0 check-in luggage included. This flight in the OP is a very good price with 2 check-in luggage included if you live in LA area.

Darn. I can't select a seat. Do they allow me to pay extra or do I need to buy a whole different ticket way more expensive than this to get seat selection

It's because you're flying economy. Who's got time for that?
Sounds like you have money to fly other than economy. However, majority of people in the world still fly economy. Also, flying in economy takes same amount of time to get same destination as flying in first class or business class. If you have time to fly in first class, I guess you also have time to fly in economy.

I don't know about Asiana Airline, but I can buy a specific seat on United although my ticket is basic economy without seat selection. I was told ANA doesn't let you buy a specific seat if your ticket is basic economy. You should ask Asiana Airline customer service about it. I would think they would know.

i don't think this is worth with the long stop. I rather pay a bit more with free luggage/seat assignment and no stop.
