Solid plane for the $$ but you should probably know how to fly before attempting this.

Yeah, I'd point any new folk to the Hobbyzone Aeroscout S 2. It's 20% off at Horizon Hobby right now. Great trainer for 200 bucks, also RTF.

If you're good with quadcopters, is it no big deal to jump right into this?

These can be a little tricky for people new to RC planes. If you live near a Mac.bid would recommend getting one from there…as can often get very cheap.

Yes. It is a completely different set of skills and reflexes you need to train. If you've not flown a plane before, you will crash this model immediately.

That said, it is SUPER fun to fly and well worth learning. The Aeroscout S 2 that @PepeSilvia94 mentioned is great or any similar slow flying, durable trainer is excellent to learn on. The hobby is quite a rabbit hole.....

If you want to go deeper into the hobby and DIY, the Frog is super fun to start with. Plans here: https://www.foamfly.com/Plans/
PDF password found here, post #884: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/s...perpage=30 -- that's the author himself sharing the PDF password (TLDR; password = xpl1d0)

Then you'll need a radio, receiver, servos, a bunch of other misc parts (control rods, etc). For radio I'd recommend checking out the FrSky X20 series. Far superior to anything Spektrum offers in terms of both features and price. https://www.horusrc.com/en/transm...m-x20-x20s

Well imho, quadcopter flying is waaay better than no stick time BUT landing and tip stalls are something you could never learn on a quad. Great plane but no I don't think quads are sufficient, especially on 3s. Aeroscout is good so is the BNF Champ and only 119… of the rtf for 150

BNF

RTF
https://www.horizonhobby.com/prod...04900.html

you'll need a dsm2/x (both would/should work) transmitter for the BNF version but if you have a quad c you may already have one.

It's a fairly big learning curve but as someone mentioned a TX with a multi protocol module and EDGETx. (Like the Radiomaster Boxer) is the way to go and to large degree "future proofs". The quality level of pretty much any Radiomaster is ALOT better than the RTF radios included.

Whatever you get , find a seasoned rc pilot that can check out your plane and go with you AND learn on a DEAD CALM day ie NO wind at all.

Is this plane difficult to fly using its "Safe Select flight envelope protection"?

Similar to above suggestion, see if you can find a local RC club. Many have training nights and instructors that will help you out. Benefit to this is connecting 2 transmitters in a "buddy box" configuration where the instructor can take control of the plane if you get into trouble. Most are cheap to join and provide great advice.

Does not include a transmitter (remote). For entry-level try something like this for about $100: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNJRV...asin_title
