I replaced my sonos Playbar with the 990D because the whole system was cheaper than the Sonos SUB. I'd say the Sonos is better for music but the 990D is equal or better for movies

Have been using 990D for 8 months and could not be more happier. If you have Samsung TV, using Q Symphony feature elevates the overall sound. (Q Symphony combines the TV Speaker with HT Speakers as one)Sonos might be better but with a full set up including subs and era300 as rear speaker and with its stands/mount, the cost almost doubles which is not worth unless you are too much of an audiophile.Personally can't justify $$$ vs benefits

I have an ARC, two subs, and the play 1s. I also have a Q990c. The Sonos all the way but you're going to pay through the nose. The sound stage of the Sonos is significantly better than the Samsung. The soundbar sounds so much larger as a result of better engagement than the Samsung. Where the Samsung shines is with Q symphony as it uses the TV speakers of a Samsung TV as the height speakers and the sound appears to come directly from behind the tv. Also the price of the Samsung. I'd say you get the better part of 80% of the sound from a Sonos with the Samsung but you have to 1) have never heard the Sonos before and 2) be willing to fiddle with the settings during setup of the Samsung for a week or so until you love it.

Look at reviews for the 5 series speakers as rear surrounds. For a lot of content the main speaker doesn't get used.

the 990d. I have this and honestly its not that special. The bass is crazy with the dual subs but its almost unenjoyable

F has support for Eclipsa Audio, ( open source Dolby Atmos) very little content out there yet, but I expect creators to start using it. ( There will always be something new on the latest model.) Your choice.

I purchase the f model because of 120hz pass through hdmi. D doesn't have that

You are correct. However after a long fiddling day trying to get the sound right this thing is driving me nut. Voices are soft and low, action are loud and rumbling. I shouldn't have to keep changing the volume everytime this happen when watching a movie. My vizio elevate m512e k6 sounded way better. Thinking of repacking this garbage back in its huge box and return it before 30 days

I saw a few threads on Reddit with suggestions about that...are you using adaptive sound mode? make sure you have the smart things app and you should be able to customize a lot of the settings

the woot deal is still available but woot is not an authorized dealer for samsung. Others have had no problems registering their woot purchases. I trust woot but I already had a greentoe bid in when I saw this post. My $1089+tax offer was accepted.
