Without a subwoofer, this sounds bizarre because it's always compensating. Get a cheaper one with a sub or a real surround system.
It might be okay with the expensive sub addon, but I ended up going Sonos at that point because it feels much higher end and sounded a little better for the price. That also benefitted from a wireless sub, but was fine without
These Bose Ultras are garbage. Ive been through 2 new, 2 refurbs of the Ultra and its predecessor (900). Great sound when it actually works - so enjoy the first 6-9 months while it lasts!
These sound good as stand alone. Sound much better with a subwoofer. I have both. Now looking for some descent surround speakers to match with these. Heard that the Bose surrounds are garbage considering the price. Any other alternatives for surrounds that will work with Bose?

The wireless receiver power brick cannot be replaced, but you can connect passive surround speaker from any brand. The bose surround speakers were overpriced and ok sounding. When I replaced it with Klipsch passive surrounds, there was a noticeable improvement in surround sound performance.
Also you can connect Klipsch brand of subwoofers to these bose smart soundbars. Just connect it to sub out port on soundbar and it immediately shows as Bose 700 subwoofer in bose app. Of all subwoofer brands, the Klipsch subwoofers are fully compatible with Bose soundbars, rest of other brands is a hit or miss
Excellent soundbar…..excels at both movies and music, also provides extremely clear dialogue…..something the Sonos and Samsung options at this price point struggle with. The samsung in particular is tinny, ugly, and unreliable quality….the Bose looks/sounds premium on All content. Also can pair with a low cost subwoofer to bring the thunder. The $200 Klipsch wireless model at Costco is nearly as good as the Bose version for a fraction of the cost.
