I just recently bought the "silver" colored RGB variant a couple weeks back for $10 from Woot. Unfortunately, it's sold out at the moment.

Yeah, I figured that much which was why I mentioned buying the silver variant for half the price of the one in the OP.

I am trying to do my first build in almost a decade and CPU cooling is by far the main thing that is throwing me, since I always used the fan/heatsink combos included with retail CPUs.

I have a 360 AIO (Newegg free gift with the CPU), but it won't fit my case, and seems potentially overkill for what I am doing (no overclocking, no discrete GPU). Plus, if I get a case that accommodates the 360 AIO, I cannot mount (at least internallly) my optical drive (which I need for this build).

Are folks more current on the building scene able to comment on whether this is sufficient to cool the 265K?

Go Thermaltake, Scythe Fuma or Artic. These Cooler Master designs were the go to cheap option like 12 years ago but not really anymore. Go up to $50 on budget and you can get air coolers that are on the same level as $100 coolers or liquid coolers.

Noctura with a 14 cm fan is dead quiet unless you floor it.

It will cool it fine, been using the same 212 from my 2007 phenom all the way up to my 12700k lol

Bit confusing between Pro vs black 212. Then many discussions about better colors in same price range. Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 EVO Dark is $18.

Few cases have 360mm radiator support, and of those, even fewer (if any) would have slots for optical drives. as 360mm rads are usually front-mounted.

Who said this was a modern case? Wink Embarrassment

And this has turned out to be the crux of my issue. While I prefer to use a case I already have (probably circa 2010), I am having an impossible time finding a modern case that even fits the optical drive and the 360 AIO. I had already ordered that yellow ThermalTake 380XL, but I probably cannot understate how much my wife will hate the looks of it (even in the office), and that is not even factoring in the external optical drive which both of us would hate.

My order of this had a 10% off coupon too, so $18 and here tomorrow so I can commence building. Thanks OP and commenters.

I used above and had noticed 10-20C difference from stock AMD cooler. No issues so far - running 24 x 7 and medium gaming for BF and COD series.
