This is incredibly expensive compared to most portable jump starters. Is there a benefit to being able to use your Ryobi batteries? Not if this is in your car so you can jump it anywhere you are, unless you have a habit of driving your batteries around with you. And with a battery it's also bulkier than most portable jump starters too. Typical portable jump starters also charge via commonly available USB C and act as a portable power bank in case e.g. your phone is dying. This doesn't do either.

It doesn't really make sense except to keep at home.

I would probably buy one for my Ryobi collection at $50-60, but not more.

I'm not buying one, but the advantage is the battery is replaceable. The cheap portable jump starters can go bad, leaving you with ewaste and needing to buy another piece of junk.

I have been waiting for this tool for years and the price tag is way too high. I'd maybe pay $50 for this. You basically just need a dc-dc voltage converter, clamps and a Ryobi battery plugin. You could build this for $30 on amazon.

I got a deal on a really nice portable jumper not long ago for about $20.

It's too much current for a reasonably priced DC-DC converter. They're probably charging capacitors to do the job.
At this price on sale, it's still too expensive but the tech is more complicated than straight DC to DC and not having a well known competing product doesn't help.

I didn't want to go down an entire rabbit hole but it technically would work. I think these things are usually MOSFET/PWM driven. Either way this is a crazy price for very simple technology.

A Ryobi battery costs as much as a brand new portable jump starter on sale anyway - and they're always on sale. And why would you be replacing the Ryobi battery? If it's because it went bad (same theoretical scenario), then you also have the same waste in that scenario too.

So the use cases are worse, the waste is the same, the cost is much higher.

No, because you aren't wasting all of the electronics.

it is only $36 when factor battery/charger is $89 at HD today. it is not a power bank. it is supercapacitor based jumper. size matters..

like $20 worth of electronics in there lol

Capacitors are cheap. I'll stick with my $20 jump pack.

this is not a power bank for your phone, it is jump starter for the car and sized accordingly. unit is supercap based, no internal battery. swappable external battery design is great. if you own Ryobi it is for you. it takes less than 2 minutes to recharge the supercap for repeat use...try that with your $30 junk box, oh wait, it takes all day to charge that one...better call AAA.
when you factor $89 for battery/charger at HD today this jumper is only $36
