I bought a pair of these when they first came out and never again if I'm not mistaken 2022 may have been 23 . I paid cash of course , footlocker . The air bubble in the right shoe popped . Swish swish swish every step. Lost the receipt Nike wouldn't honor the warranty no recipient! Literally they were only released a few weeks how could I pass the warranty period(? Never again will I buy these and I have a lot of Nike air max air max 1-90-95-97 a whole closet full but not these!

I still have a pair from early 2000s and they are still going strong. also have 3 pairs from the last 5 years. 1 dad wears the all black all day. great kicks looks like you got unlucky. if possible always purchase from nike, they will send you a new pair free

Air max plus wasn't around in 2000, it came out less than 5 years ago.

Are these training shoes or running? I'm looking to actually splurge on shoes for both the gym and for running. Have been looking at the Nike Flex 4 for gym and the Nuaxis for running.

These are well behind current running shoes foams. So many great options, but if you're looking at Nike, in this price range, you should be able to find one of the recent Pegasus models.
