For some, this can result in symptoms like heartburn, acid reflux, gas, or GERD, especially with artificially ionized water. • Temporary bitter taste and digestive changes: Water with a pH above 9 can taste bitter and may temporarily disrupt digestive processes, particularly for people taking antacids or proton pump inhibitors. • Mineral imbalance: Excess intake of alkaline water loaded with minerals such as calcium and magnesium can lead to imbalances, potentially lowering the body's absorption of other key minerals (like iron or zinc), and increasing the risk of conditions like hypercalcemia (high calcium levels) which may cause nausea, vomiting, or kidney issues. • Risk of alkalosis: Drinking high quantities could very rarely cause metabolic alkalosis (excess alkalinity in body fluids), leading to symptoms like nausea, muscle twitching, cramps, confusion, and heart rhythm disturbances. This is more likely if large amounts are consumed over extended periods. • Hyperkalemia in special populations: High-pH alkaline water (pH above 9.8) can sometimes lead to dangerous elevations of blood potassium (hyperkalemia), particularly in people with kidney issues. • Interference with medication: Those on acid-blocking medications (like PPIs) or with kidney disease are at higher risk if consuming strong alkaline water, as it can further impact mineral balances or interfere with how medications work. • Potential contamination (with bottled/ionized water): Some bottled or artificially ionized alkaline waters may have inconsistency in quality or contamination risks, especially if not properly filtered before pH adjustment.For healthy adults, moderate consumption is unlikely to be harmful, but the supposed health benefits are not well-supported by research, and excess intake should be avoided, especially if you have underlying health problems or are taking medications that affect acid-base balance.Most reputable health sources recommend that plain tap or bottled water is sufficient for hydration, and highlight that extreme changes in water's pH offer no proven major benefit, while carrying potential risks for some

It's a good (enough) deal on very nice tasting water, and it's not depleting any limited aquifer. I have a hard time justifying it as everyday drinking water, and generally use it to make large icecubes to pour liquor over (rum, bourbon) or to dilute cask strength scotch.
