  • A graphic novel of the enchanting prequel to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit - the classic fantasy that inspired Peter Jackson's major motion picture trilogy.
  • When Thorin Oakenshield and his band of dwarves embark upon a dangerous quest to reclaim the hoard of gold stolen from them by the evil dragon Smaug, Gandalf the wizard suggests an unlikely accomplice: Bilbo Baggins, an unassuming Hobbit dwelling in peaceful Hobbiton.

This was just added to Hoopladigital this month. If you have a library card, you may have access to the app or something similar that gets you access to these graphic novels.

I think LotR goes on sale frequently but regardless, the Illustrated Hobbit is also $2, as goes LotR and Simillarion. So you can get basically all of Middle Earth for $6

I second this. I've been reading this with my kids since they were little (~2-3 yrs old). They love looking at all the pictures.

I will say - this is obviously super cheap for the eBook...but I think having the physical edition is worth something with a book like this because I say my kids really enjoy flipping between pages.

Absolutely! eBook if you have an iPad or good sized tablet, but nothing beats the paper copy. I read the hobbit to my oldest when she was little (more for me than for her lol), so when we got this she was excited when she could remember some of the parts.

Which physical print book would you recommend?

Had the paperback and it was decent. I think most tablets are not long enough to accommodate the paperback equivalent - have to squint a lot or keep zooming in/out. Better on a computer though. Come to think of it - I might orient and set a monitor for just this (have too many lying around anyway).

You can "borrow" books at your public libraries a lot of the times.
