I would avoid this simply for the fact that the plug is not your usual USB-C or micro usb.

I bought two these ~6 years ago. They work great! I use them everyday.

If you're using an iPhone though, I would now look at a charger with MagSafe. With these, you have to place the phone in the right spot, and that spot is a bit small. I got used to it and never have an issue now. But the magnetic hold of MagSafe is certainly easier.

I have the same instinct but in my usage, this has never been a limitation. I set it up and don't move it. The once or twice a year I move one, just keep the pad and charger together.
