Real world testing only showed 1-4% faster in this video (Gamers Nexus). Is that worth it?

This is for graphics cards not a storage device so it is a bit misleading because the card will limit the performance gains from gen 5. If you work with large files like during video editing then you'll see performance gains. For most users you won't notice much difference between gen 4 and gen 5.
