Good charger. A bit bulkier and falls out of outlets as it's heavy. It also has an annoying limitation where when you plug in an additional device, it shuts off and restarts power to other ports. For example, while traveling, I have the travel router plugged in to this. Now when I plug in my laptop, it cuts off and restarts power to the router port. I think it renegotiates the wattage, but it should do that without shutting off the port completely.

Thanks for providing that example about your travel router. Would have never thought about that!

That is how many, if not all, multi-port chargers work.

that sounds to me a defective unit

I have tried four of these chargers: two were replaced byAnker and I bought two. They all have this limitation. Anker confirmed that is how it works.

It's just my use case with a travel router that I don't want restarted every time I plug/unplug a device. For regular charging, it's an excellent charger.

No. It happens when you plug in device that is power hungry. Charger needs to recalibrate power output in order to support multiple devices while keep all ports at max possible wattage.

The Insignia gan chargers from Best Buy have this exact same problem.

What I meant is this:

I bought two of these chargers. Then Anker replaced both of those as I reported the issue. The replaced ones still have the same issue (which, I now know is a common issue as they re-negotiate). That makes 4 chargers I tested.

This isn't a good charger.

I got one of these, and it was completely incapable of holding a 140W charge rate for an extended period of time. It will throttle the wattage, but eventually, it just stops charging anything. This charger overheats far too easily for something so large.

Anker replaced the charger twice before accepting a return, and all of them exhibited this problem. One of them was able to hold out longer, but overheated to the point of damaging its screen.

This model apparently isn't made by Anker, which is part of the reason it has such poor quality.

Chargers should only renegotiate when limits are exceeded

I have a desk charger that use for my networking equipment that doesn't do this, and will simply not power an additional device past remaining limits

That makes no sense. First you said, that 'it is a good charger'. Then you replaced both even though 'Anker confirms that how they work' and normal. But they still replaced them (keeping the same bug-feature) twice! Something or somebody is wrong with this picture...

We're discussing the part where you plug in a new device to the charger's port where it will restart charging all connected devices to negotiate power delivery.
