RTINGS gave it an 8.6/10, saying [rtings.com]
The Samsung Q990D is excellent for mixed usage. This bar can do it all. It has a very balanced and neutral sound, so it sounds versatile enough for movies, TV shows, and music. It delivers thumpy and punchy bass, too, thanks to its subwoofer, and you can even customize its sound thanks to its robust sound enhancement features. This bar supports a lot of different audio formats and can play Dolby Atmos content to give you a really immersive and dimensional audio experience.

A traditional setup will be better. Soundbars are useful for rooms you don't want to have a speaker setup in. Home theater? Speakers. Living room that you use for multiple things, including watching TV? Sound bar.
Its hard to replicate the balanced and immersive sound that these soundbars generate vs discrete speakers. Especially at this price point (I know, I tried discrete speakers before getting a higher end soundbar like this)

We have this soundbar in our living room. Traditional 5.1 in our theater room. The 5.1 sounds better and it isn't even close. Everyone will be different obviously.
