And isn't TLC currently considered to be the best mix of performance and price for the most part? And aren't folks finding QLC drives can run slow as molasses in some scenarios?

Yup. I also remember Sammy Pro NVMe were SLC..

What model used SLC NAND. Even MLC has been gone from the consumer market for quite some time.

TBW numbers are primarily for warranty purposes. They're not a great indicator of actual drive lifespan. Also, filling a drive with zeros may consume little to no endurance, as many drives won't actually bother to commit that to NAND. Sectors filled with zeros can be treated the same as trimmed sectors.
