These are pretty peak adidas. I prefer a gum sole, but those are rare.

I bought these before and they are unbelievably comfortable. Too bad I need a 14 or I would have instantly bought another pair.

This should not be relevant for a trail shoe. There is bigger issue from the aesthetics point of view. White soles will become dirt colored pretty fast and the shoe has so many element and layers that it will be a pain to clean anyways.
On a bright side - Continental rubber is the best shoe rubber I've ever had. Beats Vibram on my Terrex shoes, I do highly recommend for any rock scrambling / running activities

Is "peak adidas" a good or a bad thing ?

I bought a pair of these from the employee store a while back. I tried them on thinking I'd hate them, but as another poster said, they're actually really comfortable. I wouldn't do any serious hiking or anything in them though. At the employee store they stocked these with the casual sneakers, and the real hiking shoes were an aisle or two over.

The Puma brother might have been the bright one. I don't think I have owned anything adidas due to the Slav connotations, but these would be the first. They look good to me, even a bit wider than normal.

Bought 2 pair on current deal. Like them very much! At 275 lbs (SZ 13) I find a good "trail" shoe bouncy but not too bouncy as many running-types seem lately. Using these with both Dr Scholl's Big-Man insoles and the Amazon "Valsole" insoles, with excellent results. Sole is easy to clean coming in as it is smooth with simple lugs, not a bunch of nooks and crannies that add nothing to traction. And I think they look just fine :-)

It is relevant, because I'd conservatively estimate that 95% of people who buy "trail" shoes rarely wear them on trails, and if they say they do they're just walking on paved routes. And you are clearly not denying that they're fugly - they're not gaudy but are so incredibly "busy." I'm a sucker for a deal and more about comfort and function over form though, and adidas shoes usually fit me well, so I may give them a shot at this price. they'd mostly be for casual wear of course, but I do walk some unpaved trails at a brisk pace sometimes at least.
