I literally cannot understand the rush towards app control, remotes, and integrated LED.Apps are invasive, support ends. LEDs burn out. Remotes get lost. Why would someone install this over a DC unit that has pull chains or support for a wall control? And accepts replaceable bulbs.OK, maybe a very high ceiling is a use case for a remote. But it shouldn't be the only option.

I dont believe you can use these with a switch, they require constant power to the controller. I own a similar one and when the switch gets cycled, it doesnt turn the fan on, just the light. You also cant wire the light and fan separately as it needs the dc motor controller and wont work via direct ac. Thats at least my experience. Bummer for me because i have separate switch runs for fan and lights. Now my living room has a blank in a three switch face-plate.

How are these compared to the typical brands from Home Depot or Lowe's? Price is so much lower but not sure I'd be willing to skimp on a a large fan spinning quickly while my family and I sit under it

You can still just use these without them being smart. So, just connect it to a wall switch. I don't personally dig the all in one, I want to have control over the bulbs, but it's not AS big of a deal as you're saying. Apps are annoying but they're no more invasive than everything else you have on your phone, less so since it usually doesn't need access after setup.

I mean, I wouldn't buy this, but I get it.

Size is always going to matter as well as arm angle, # of arms etc. That being said I have this fan. This is not a deal, these are always at this price ($60). I've had mine for 6 months and it's been great. Good airflow for a bedroom, quality is also pretty good, I wouldn't get one for a big living room

Agree with this. There is typically a control box for these fans which take AC and use DC to power the fan/light. The control box has RF/IR/Bluetooth to communicate with the remotes. The control box is on always and the remotes are used to toggle the DC signal to the fan/light.

What's the shortest clearance for a ceiling fan that's still efficient. I have 8 ft ceilings and the current fan has a small down rod. Makes the ceiling really feel low. This fan is a 10.5" profile. I think I've seen some as low profile as 8". Any change to effectiveness?

I'm all on board with these remote fans. So much better than pull chain fans when if you can dim and brighten, change color temp. Just mount the remote on the wall and you'll never lose it.

I bought this fan on the last deal for $50. I'm using it in a bedroom/office. It's quiet, moves air well, looks fine and works with any issues.

I do have a wall switch for fan and light, which I am no longer using. I wanted a remote & app because when I'm sitting at my desk working, it's nice to adjust the light or fan when I need it rather than getting up to adjust it.

I would prefer standard replaceable bulbs, but at $50, I was willing to gamble on the LEDs. The entire purchase was a gamble (I won't use this type of fan anywhere else in my home), but as of now, while it's working, it covers my needs. With 1 exception...

I don't like the spread of the light. It casts pretty deep shadows on my desk which is not directly under the light. My old fan/light wasn't this bad. It's the only thing I don't like about it, but I also have good desk lighting, so I rarely need the fan light on.

I'd recommend for a bedroom/office space, but if the light is going to be very important, I would avoid this.

At $55 it's a throwaway product just like entry level Tvs and whatnot. If I lsot the remote or the LED burnt out I'd be annoyed I need to replace it, but beyond that, I'd move on pretty damn fast.

In my case the living room light/fan is a single wire on a switch. I could spend the money/effort of adding another wire for the fan so that each one can be controlled sepparately. Or, I can buy something like this, use it for X years, and move on. I actually have a home depot cheapie unit (traiditonal DC) that I have had in there for six years now and its starting to make noise. If thise gave me ease of controlability and decent airflow for 6 years at $55 it's virtually a no-brainer.
