These things are great. I've used them for personal and business travel for the past couple years. The speeds are totally dependent on coverage obviously, but if you're in a well connected area, this thing is very capable. I don't keep a cellular plan for it, so when I need to use it, I just buy the $20 one month unlimited data/talk/text SIM cards from Amazon. Usually T-Mobile. I also grabbed external antennas for it, which are cheap.. only a few bucks. Not necessary but it does improve speeds.

Most of those unlimited data plans have unlimited calling/texting too, and this modem is actually fully capable of sending and receiving texts. Unfortunately it's not exposed in the UI, but if you're techy, check here for details: https://github.com/svbnet/netgear-sms

I also pair it with a cheap router running openwrt so I can fudge the TTL on packets, allowing me to use SIM cards that don't allow hotspot data sharing.

I even set my buddy who lives out in the sticks up with one of these as his primary home internet service. With the SIM cards on Amazon, you're set for about $20/month. He gets about 40Mbps up/down.

Thanks. I had bought this recently. Was able to return and rebuy.

To the person asking what this is: it's a 4G LTE modem/router. Some of us can only get internet through cellphone coverage. And even if you can get fiber or whatever, you can use this as a failover internet provider.

Not everyone wants to spend $400 for 5G. You still can watch youtube, netflix on 4G.

can you use any cellular SIM or does it have to be data only SIM? I used to have a Verizon hotspot I could insert a standard SIM with a phone plan and it would be unlimited.

I got this during the last sale. It was working seamlessly. But since I got a static IP from my ISP provider, it doesn't work since I can configure this directly on the LM1200.

Tell me more about this $20 unlimited data stuff. If the only hassle is paying $20 every month and inserting a SIM card, I would happily buy this for my personal tablet that is wifi only.

What is the advantage over the battery mobile hotspots? Can't those route or be connected to a router?
