I have this unit.

Install was pretty straight forward and easy. The "window stand" is pretty silly and huge for what it needs.
it blows cold and works well, but it is VERY noisy… and not just a hum, a whole variety on buzzes, bangs, and rattles.

These are awkward and heavy, to wrestle into a window and way too many screws to install to the window. This one is 12 lbs heavier than the Midea, but my Midea never reaches that 12k btu that it is supposed to. In fact, it seldom reaches more than half that. It rarely pulls more than 700 watts, even at aggressive settings with temp set to 60F, sensor detached and Flashcool on with Eco off. They have tuned it to make it spec as more economical by overrating its output, IMHO. It takes me hours to cool a 13 x 19 room.

I have this unit and like it. Like the low profile way more than the midea u shape design. Quieter than the midea as well. At least for me it has been. 8,000 good for a bedroom but would not put it in the living room. Has a quiet setting on the remore that works. Ended up with a lg double inverter for the living room and am very happy with it.

Costco has the best return policy and customer service.

Is the 12,000 BTU Midea priced at $279 at the store as it is showing $309 online?
I think it was $289 when I was in the Costco in Issaquah, WA (suburb of Sattle) this past Tuesday. This was, from my recollection, with a $60 instant rebate or something of the sort.

I have two 8K unit and sometime the fan motor does not run. I have to reset by unplug to get it working again. I have to reset at least 10 times now. Anyone has this issue with the fan motor not running sometime?
I used my 8k hisense inverter U air conditioner for about 2 months and never had that issue. Made my upstairs bedroom tolerable until I got confident enough to install a new blower motor for my upstairs hvac. How long did it take you to start having issues?

If this 12k were available when I was buying the 8k, I likely would have dragged my feet more on hvac repairs. Unit is quiet and cools well but struggled when I opened my bathroom door or walk in closet, so much added heat load. I also could notice a difference standing up from bed, like the temperature up to 4 feet above the ground was cold, walking height things were 10 degrees warmer.

I don't know what the point of having a electrically lifting flap is if it doesn't sweep up and down.

This fits a smaller window than Midea U-shape, although Midea is the 2nd largest AC manufacturer in China. I ordered a few Hisense, some Midea and Some GE(Haier) ACs. Only Midea and Hisense produces U-shape (there are other small brands sold in USA, but I think they must outsource to these big AC manufacturers such as Midea/Gree/Haier/Hisense/TCL/AUX ).

I'm assuming this can't be installed in vertical windows. Yes?

Besides copper connections, refrigerants, and the weight of the oil-filled compressor, it's really just aluminum, plastic, fans, and styrofoam that comprise the price.A/C's shouldn't cost that much to make and Costco probably makes huge margins on them anyway.
Well. How about these Central AC (2 Tons to 5 tons) cost you from $3000-$5000 per unit and the AC company charges you $4000-$6000 installation fee?

Plus complex electronics, bearings, lots of unique parts that require complex machining or molding, etc... the fact that they can be had UNDER $300 with inflation these days is a modern miracle of mass production. If you think ~$300 for a window air conditioner is bad, wait til you see $2000-3000+ refrigerators..
Actually the central AC installation and unit cost rises from $5k a few years ago to $8k-$12k now. A friend just got his central AC (5 tons) replaced and costed $12k!

The flap does sweep up and down. Button on bottom left of remote says swing. Using it now and it is swinging or sweeping.

I also have it and mine is loud, but the word I would use to describe it is bass-y. It sounds like a subwoofer. I don't know how or why. It's doing a good job cooling the room it's in though
I noticed that the cover could be loose. So a little tape will help as well.

My Midea 12,000 btu U-shaped is keeping my 1400 sq ft home nice and crispy while helping a lot with the humidity. Not easy with a pier and beam home in Texas and no shade. No slight to this unit which I know little of. I do know my central ac is way lower in cycling uses.

Go with the Midea. I ordered two. Both came damaged in the same outdoor left side spot. Not as powerful as the Mideas even at the same BTU. Costco returned without boxes no questions asked.

I have had one of these and two of the 8k units for about two months. They replaced Midea units. I find them adequate but inferior in all aspects. My main gripe is not being able to turn off the annoying confirmation beep. Needless to say I bought replacement power cords for my Midea units and will return these to Costco once I fix them.

How's Costco with return. Got the 8unit for living room a month ago and it's not enough power. Takes too long to cool down.To return it do I need to package it how it was ? Hard to put it back together
Mine broke after almost a year and they accepted it without the box. Return policy is top tier, but don't abuse it because your account can get flagged. I've seen and heard stories of ridiculous returns being denied before.
