this actually just gave me a really good idea but it is with magnets instead. one magnet taped to the desk. the other attaches to the cable. having to use a latch every time really sucks especially at night.

If the business end of the cable has enough exposed metal, you might even be able to get by with one magnet double-side taped to the desk.

The magnetic is the open/close portion. Ps. Please disregard my comment. I was referring to other link.

i am happy to report these work great. i have a dashcam in my rear window and, surprisingly, the plastic in that area is practically nonstick. i've tried some 3m specialized tapes that ended up working. but when i saw these cords, i thought this is a low cost way to try a sleeker install. it totally worked. strong and solid for my dash cam cord that runs down to the trunk power source. money well spent.

I would opt for getting magnetic ones. A clasp isn't as hands free and requires more force both to open and close it. I have the magnetic ones and love them

Solid idea. In the case of using these though as long as you have a cord long enough you don't even need to open and close it. Just pull more or less cord through the clasp

I have used my own solution for years. Get the really small binder clips and put one on a cable. Then pop out the chrome arms so only the black portion of the clip remains on the cable. Then use command strips to attach magnets to the desk. Or use magnet tape (rubber magnet with adhesive back). The magnet holds the binder clip which holds the rest of the cable.

I think it depends on how you intend to use them. If you want to pull the cable away from the clip when you use it (for more length and freedom of movement), the magnets seem like the choice. However if you want to pull the cord through the hole (for better cable management), then the snaps seem better.
