Best to wait for Super which will have at 24Gb of ram plus other upgrades. Christmas release is likely.

For the 5080 I don't think the additional memory is that big a deal assuming your use is gaming. I haven't seen anyone identifying any use cases where the 16gbs of memory isn't enough and the card is running out of memory. Even in edge cases or things that still wouldn't be useful anyway. It's not like the 8 or 12gb cards where you've got a bunch of different people showing a bunch of different test scenarios where lack of memory is clearly holding things back. On the performance side of things the 5080 super is looking like it will just be an OC card with some additional performance from addition power consumption so from my perspective the 5080 super will be all about the price. If they keep the price the same it's a mild improvement since a bit more performance and more memory is not a bad thing. If they happen to do the same thing the 4080 super did and drop the price it could be a good refresh but I'm not sure why they would do that. If the make the official MSRP 1100 or 1200 where the street price has been for the 5080 the super could be pretty meh.

At MSRP I'd say the step up from a 5070ti to a 5080 isn't great and I'm not sure how much sense it makes. It looks a little better when most 5070ti cards are in the low to mid $800 instead of $750.

In the end it's tech. There's always a wait a bit to get a bit more. The Super's haven't actually been announced yet so it could be 6 months or more before they actually end up shipping and without prices we have no idea if they will be better or worse than the current cards.

I'd expect price to be held at $999. We shall see if it makes sense once announced.

As much as I like the idea of upgrading, I think my money would be better spent on an OLED monitor.

I have a 7900xtx and do a lot of 4k modding on Skyrim. I've seen my VRAM usage get as high as 20gb. Kind of a niche case, but if you do demanding modding you may benefit from the extra VRAM

I'm also on the 7900xtx. Is this a worthy upgrade to get DLSS?

Not at all. 16gb memory is more than enough for any game. This 4k at nearly 100fps. Even if the 5080 super is released with 24gb (which is not truly confirmed ). You won't be able to get it until June and you certainly won't get it at msrp. How quickly everyone's forgetting that most normal people couldn't get a 5 series card until May.

Also, it seems Nvidia and AMD are focusing on shrinking memory requirements for image generation so 16GB will go a lot further.
"Nvidia is already working on neural texture compression to reduce texture demands on video memory, but AMD work graphs and mesh nodes provide another method of achieving the same goal (and will not be limited to Nvidia GPUs)."
