7100 has much lower power draw so excellent for mobile devices and is newer than 850x. 850x has dram cache but higher power draw, may be better for desktop. Dram is beaten to a pulp, most people won't even be able to tell a difference except with some specific workloads

Really glad I bought my last SSD before the AI bubble. I am pretty sure this is the lowest a high end (as far as general consumers are concerned) SSD has gone for in the last few years outside of wild sales, though. Seems like a good deal, WD always makes good SSDs in my experience. If I was looking to shave a few seconds off of load times I would be in for one, but tbh saving 5 seconds a day isn't my highest priority.
