Replace power supply

166 42 Today at 07:51 AM
i have (well my wife has) an Ibuypower trace mr gamjng desktop. it appears to have a 700w power supply that is dead.

i have never replaced a power supply. how hard is it? any suggestions on good, yet inexpensive, replacement. ideally something from amazon with free returns in case the issue is not the power supply?

thanks!

It's pretty easy to replace a power supply. Watch some youtube videos.

The main issue you'll have to watch out for is selecting a compatible power supply. Power supply standards have evolved and you need to make sure you're selecting a power supply with the right connectors, and voltage rail configuration. This machine is likely new enough that you need an ATX3.0 or ATX3.1 power supply, but you'll need to figure that out. Modular power supplies where you choose what cables to plug in can be nice.

Aim for an 80 Plus Gold, Silver, or Bronze power supply from a decent brand.

You can find things online that rank to quality of PSU brands.

It will be easier to find a decent power supply on newegg even if you ultimately buy it on Amazon.

Don't cheap out on the power supply. It's honestly one of the most important components in the computer.
