I would rather have this for $26 than an SLX for $100. I bought one for my 5 year old and I am shocked at how well it works.

I just got this in the mail. Haven't spooled it up yet but it feels really solid out of the box and comes with a nice velvet carry bag. Also I think you get random colors. It was one of the only bad reviews on this thing. People were upset they got the wrong color. For $26 you can send me whatever color you want, but I guess that's important to some people. I ordered the red one and got the blue (I think the blue one looks better lol) Action is super smooth so I can't wait to slap this on a rod and try it out.

This is a good reel. Ideally you really want to spend more on your rod than your reel. The rod does 95% of the work.

I would pair with a 702 rod that is more jack of all trades for fresh water fishing. Fast or medium fast tip. I prefer full cork but most new fisherman enjoy the split rigs. You can check around to see what works for you. But if you are like me you'll be performing dozens of cast a hour for a good 4 to 8 hours. Balance matters more than weight but it will cost more.

Ideally you want a left handed reel if you're right handed. The rod does the bulk of the work. The other hand simple reels and thumbs the spool.

Depends how much you want to spend. Dick's has a Tatula for $120 ($30 off). Hard to get a better rod at that price. They also have a Dobyns Frenzy on sale for $63. Amazon has certain Dobyns Maverick rods for just over $50 (almost half off). If you really want to cheap out, get a Shimano FX - they're not on sale, but they're a functional casting rod thats cheaper than most glide baits.

Same, the reel is better than most brands out there. Can't beat it for around $25.

I have a Tatula. It isn't a bad rod at all. Haven't tried the frenzy or maverick.
