What is the significance of this over a drill with bit attachments? Genuine question...

I think the only benefit is the adjustable nose cone that let's you adjust the screw depth before camming out. I've never had an issue with the standard drywall bit depth, so this tool seems unnecessary.

it's a dedicated drywall screw gun. it's much more efficient for time to hang drywall. not only does it have an adjustable screw depth stop, it's not an auto-on where you just press the screw onto the board and the tool starts and stops automatically with each screw, no trigger pull needed. I'm pretty sure there are attachments to use collated screws so you don't have to load by hand.

For the regular person not drywalling too much, the drywall drill bits with the depth stop will be more than sufficient. For people doing a whole house, or a major remodel, a dedicated drywall gun is far superior. Ergonomic for the use, auto on for drilling, adjustable depth stop, etc. A tool designed for a specific job will almost always be better than the generalized tool.
Like saying a Leatherman multitool works just as well as wire strippers for wiring. Yes, I can do it with the leatherman and get perfect results, but its more finicky and takes longer. Or saying I dont need a truck to haul landscape bricks when my CR-V will do. Yes, the SUV works fine, but it is nowhere near as good of a hauler as the pickup. Would I use it if I didnt have a big job? Yes, but I would want to haul an entire yard worth of landscape materials in an SUV.

...for the occasional drywall fix. If you're hanging drywall all day, this tool is absolutely necessary.

I have this and got it for $110 for the bare tool (about the same if you hack the battery) from Amazon a few months ago. I like it a lot. If you just need to put in literally a couple of screws or might need to use any other bits, any impact driver is fine, but if you have to put in a lot of screws, like supporting around lots of nail pops around a whole room, a dedicated screw gun is very useful. I also use it with the DCF6202 Collated Attachment when I have to hang new sheets.

In addition to the other responses, drywall guns have much higher RPMs than a standard drill. This one does 4850 rpm, the Dewalt Max XR drill has a max RPM of 2000. The high rpm is particularly helpful for metal studs. They also have a different form factor than a drill. I was on the fence about getting a drywall gun for a recent project and I'm very happy I did. It's one of those tools you don't necessarily need (if you're not a pro) but it makes projects a lot more enjoyable.
