Can anyone comment on the heat this produces? Some of the reviews say it becomes a fireball and that's not great for any drive…

$10 more than a normal small enclosure. The screen is more of a gimmick. The heat problem might just be that half the body is a Screen that wont help reduce heat leaving only one side to heatsink. All enclosures this size are fireballs to be honest.

This may be good for those that have a 2230 SSD sitting around in a drawer, one that originally came with their Microsoft Surface / Steamdeck, one they swapped out. Otherwise standard 2280 SSDs are much cheaper than 2230s and so are 2280 enclosures.

The screen is a gimmick that may contribute to the overheating issue.

I have it and it runs cool with the 1tb drive I'm using. (I pulled the drive from a Lenovo T490, not sure the brand) works better than most external enclosures I've purchased

if you purchased any, drop me seller. I did buy a 256gb for like $12 on an SD post few months ago (which I have in a magsafe case).

What's the appeal of this product when there are cheaper options on Amazon from SABRENT [amazon.com] and ORICO [amazon.com]? The 3-second PLP (Power Loss Protection)?

Hard pass on that Sabrent one if that cable is not replaceable. The Orico looks good though.
