I'm guessing you've never had a fridge stop working when you're away (or when you have a secondary fridge), but no, this is a solution to an existing problem.

Fair enough. No, it never happened to me. Thanks for clarifying
Fridge/freezer alarms help you decide whether to toss out the foods after a power outage. They usually have a timer that keeps track of how long your fridge/freezer have exceeded the safe temperature.

Ive looked long and hard at Govee vs YoLink vs Ecowitt. I needed 6 temp and humidity sensors : 2 refrigerators (fridge + freezer), outdoor, indoor. I bought them all compared them side by side. I already have a bunch of govee lights and moisture sensors so I really wanted to stick to a single app.
I ended up with the Ecowitt sensors. The app is bad and doesn't have push notifications. The way I get notified is by email, to a dedicated email address and different ringtone when emails come in. But the sensors are the most accurate with perfect connection going from the back of the garage, through a 2 cinder block walls, to the little hub which acts as an indoor temp sensor too. So as much as I wanted the govee or YoLinks to be better, they weren't. But man, that app is terrible.

One thing to note about YoLink - there is no current or planned Smartthings integration. I didn't find that out until after I ordered a bunch of door/motion/water sensors
plenty of commercial uses for this. if restaurant fridge compressor dies when they are closed, and they get an alert, it would highly useful. better to know as it happens vs when they reopen 2 days later.

Bought 2 (discount applied to both) for my freezer/fridges. Two individual sensors cost $40, so for $2 more you get an extra gateway (useful if rooms are far apart)

Guess lucky always been home when electricity goes out. Here in OK never know about weather so might not realize electricity was off or for how long.
