Was about to jump the gun until I saw the artificial colors and heavy metals in the ingredients list. Hard pass.

Still on sale. This could make an excellent "filler" Subscribe & Save item to get to 5 subscriptions for the month.

Quote from J03 :
What heavy metals are in the ingredients?
  • Sodium Tallowate: This is a common soap base derived from animal fat. It has a high pH, which can be irritating to skin. Since the skin's natural pH is slightly acidic, using high-pH soaps like those containing sodium tallowate can disrupt the skin's protective barrier, potentially leading to dryness, redness, and irritation.
  • Fragrance (Parfum): This is a broad term that can represent dozens or even hundreds of undisclosed chemical ingredients. Fragrance is one of the most common causes of skin allergies and contact dermatitis. Some of the chemicals used in fragrances have been linked to potential health concerns, including hormone disruption and other chronic health issues. The lack of ingredient transparency for "fragrance" makes it difficult for consumers to know what they are being exposed to.
  • Chelating Agents (e.g., Tetrasodium Etidronate, Pentasodium Pentetate): These ingredients are used to improve the soap's performance in hard water. While the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has concluded that these are safe for cosmetic use, there are some concerns. Tetrasodium Etidronate, in particular, has been linked to potential skin irritation and is made with chemicals like formaldehyde and sodium cyanide. However, the finished product does not contain these chemicals. There have also been a few reports of allergic reactions to these compounds.
  • Titanium Dioxide: This is a mineral used as a whitening agent. The primary concerns about titanium dioxide relate to ingestion, particularly in nanoparticle form, as some studies suggest it could potentially accumulate in the body and cause damage. However, when used topically in products like soap, it is not absorbed through the skin and is generally considered safe. The European Union has banned it as a food additive, but it remains legal in the U.S. and in cosmetic products.
