That was to highlight that this wouldn't be an upgrade for those with a 2nd generation pencil if that was true.
True…but…
At this price point it's a much better deal/option than the knockoff brands.
Apple's top tech has never been accused of being cheap but Apple does stand behind their products & supports them far longer than almost anyone.
IMO this is a good deal especially since Apple rarely offers sizable discounts.

Doesn't stick into the bottom of the iPad charging port to charge. That was super awkward.
Doesn't have a cap over the charging port that could get lost easily.
Compatible with basically all iPads made within the last five years, except iPad 9th gen.
Caveat compared to the original apple pencil:
No pressure sensitivity.
