they tend to disappear. My last one blew off my hand in a boat wake. the previous fell off when i fell off my paddleboard. I had another catch on a railing underground and tear off.

Silicone rings are to wear in lieu of a wedding band or other rings that you don't want to lose, don't want to wear while doing sports, or just because they are comfier

These are must if you work on cars or in any tight locations with your hands. If you don't know why, don't google ring degloving. I buy a multi pack every few years as after a while they tend to stretch out and fall off.

Yeah silicone should be default and metal should be when you want to dress up for metal occasions. Jimmy Fallon nearly degloved his finger before a show so it can happen to anyone

Why wear any ring at all while working on cars or while doing any activities that may cause harm to you or the ring?

I'm in the same boat as you. I must be naive, but I just don't understand the purpose of having to wear a ring. When I worked out regularly, as soon as I parked my car I'd take off my ring and put it in my glove box. I never thought "my wife is going to run in the gym, tell me to take off my weight lifting glove and ask to see my finger". To each their own I guess, but I just don't understand the purpose of it.

For me, taking my ring on and off was a really good way of losing it (and I did). I would get stinging dermatitis underneath the ring from moisture, so I started taking it off to wash my hands or shower. It apparently fell out of my pocket somewhere while I was on vacation. My SIL also lost her rings the same way and left them in a restaurant bathroom. I wear a silicone one now that has channels to allow moisture to escape, but I will say that it does slip off pretty easily when it gets wet, like when I'm toweling off or doing dishes. When it's dry, it's nice and tight. But if I lose it again, it costs little to replace.
