For those of you who switch off every year between you and your spouse being the primary member, so you can take advantage of the new member deal….

How does that affect Costco's excellent return policy when the membership you bought something under is now cancelled?

It's tempting to cancel and start over BUT I want my expensive electronics, furniture, tires etc to continue to have what is essentially a protection plan pseudo warranty. I'm not going to return a cheap chair a year later, but if for example an expensive recliner stops working at 4 months I absolutely would bring it back.

How do you even get that to work nowadays? Last time I tried this, the member promo team denied it because of the same household address and the 18 months cooldown applies to that address.

So the 0.01 discount has been applied, does that mean I am eligible for the $45 costco shop card? Its 2025 and companies still doesn't have a clear indication whether we are getting the promo or not.

I don't know what standard process is but I had to go in since I never got the official card always used the app. I went to the desk and they looked me up by phone number saw that I had two memberships attached to it and transfered mine, so that I'd have access to my past purchases. the shop card was emailed to me and still valid when I went to add to account.

If you do a 3 person rotation, will this help avoid the 18 month rule? Does being on a membership as a household member count as being a member? Or does that time count as part of the 18 months?

They both have advantages. We have things we prefer at both. However we let costco lap due to distance.

Same question. Any data points ?

The promo page seems to exclude household members as well.
"Valid only for new members and those whose memberships (Primary and Household) have been expired for at least 18 months."
