I can't fully ensure your concerns aren't justified because I never logged the voltage out over time but I have run the 5w version for a few years now. My previous battery was able to stay alive for almost 2 years past the warranty date (autozone gold) until I did eventually run it low and it never recovered. The 5w version is safe for my 2013 truck's electrical system.
