I've beaten this game 3x on Xbox. The first time was fun. The 2nd and 3rd time were chores shipping cutscenes and racing through levels not dying.

Difficulty rewards only unlock on the specific difficulty and the highest difficulty does not unlock the lower difficulty rewards so if you want the cosmetics you'll have 3 playthroughs unless it gets patched.

You'll likely have 3 favorite weapons and a favorite shield rune.

I look forward to story dlc.

First playthrough unlocking all upgrades, getting all secrets and challenges was on nightmare was the longest.

Second playthrough Ultra Nightmare (perma death) was a lot less stressful with the sliders enabled to deal 1000% damage, make enemies attack less and deal less damage.

Third on Pandemonium was the real chore of doing it a 3rd time.

Game does glitch/crash so I had to do an entire level again 2x which is an inconvenience

That's a surprising change with the difficulty rewards, which is a bit of a mixed bag.
I get why it may have been done - Increase replayability. But games beforehand let you score the lower difficulty rewards if you did play a higher one, so this change is rather odd to do after so many years.
I also want to mention that the game on physical is NOT a physical copy. It's a digital license on a disk that unlocks the full download of the game. A prior Call of Duty from a couple years ago did the same thing with their console disks. So if you want to own this game for the long haul, then be considerate that your disk won't let you install a base or 1.0 copy of the game in full without internet.

I bought this game on PC yesterday, and thus far, I am pleased. It feels superior to Doom 2020, but not as good as the 2016 game. But, I'm only on Chapter 4.

I felt this game was just okay. I think Doom 2016 was the best of these new Doom games, Eternal would be my second best and Dark Ages is my least favorite.

Contrary, my favorite in the series and GOTY for fast paced FPS. 22 missions, I try to 100% each mission as I play it so it takes ~30min to play each one and I enjoy it still, probably about 2/3 of the way finished. Titan/mech missions are very fun but short so bring that average down, not including those it is probably ~45min per mission so I think worth it at this price (Gamepass subscriber, I wouldn't pay MSRP on any game) I probably won't replay

I have never played any Doom games, do I need to play any previous one, or I'm ok playing this one as my first one?

You can start with Dark Ages if you'd like. It's technically a prequel so it arguably makes sense to begin with it, but the story isn't a major aspect of this series and you could play them in release order just as well.
The modern Doom releases are Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, and Doom the Dark Ages. They're all really well made and worth playing, in my opinion.

I loved this game 10/10 for me. I also loved 2016 and thought that one was the best until I played this one. Was not a big fan of eternal I didn't like all the climbing …

Story wasnt important in 2016, but they really bent over cramming it into Eternal. And what a crappy story it was.
It's like they looked at the epicness of 2016 and thought "Let's see how badly we can intentionally mess this up without getting called out". It's really hard to think of any compliments that can be given to Doom Eternal besides "It ran well".
Really makes me nervous about future installments.

This is fine to start with. It's the first game in the series with a shield parry mechanic. I think they did a fine job with it. The story is a prequel to Doom 2016. Forget the haters, just jump in and play. Classic Doom games are cheap or free, and easy to find on any platform.

I love to see this for $40 on a deal, having played and beat it at no additional cost with Game Pass - destroying PS Plus value proposition, esp when you stack 3 years Ultimate at ~$6/month while vacationing in Asia and/or using a VPN 😜
