If you already have an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription, the conversion rate from Core to Ultimate is worse.

Without active Ultimate: Core converts at 2:1, so 12 months of Core becomes 6 months of Ultimate.

With active Ultimate: The conversion rate drops to 3:1, meaning 12 months of Core only gives you 4 months of Ultimate.

You're right, it was. These cards used to go on sale at Newegg for $49, $11 off a $60 base price. Microsoft upped the price of the Core cards around the time they raised the month-to-month prices of all versions of GamePass. It took a month or so for the yearly codes to jump up in price as well, but they eventually did.

These convert to standard at 2/3rds, ie 12 months core to 8 months standard. At that rate it works out to about 80-90 for 1 year of standard after converting, depending on your local tax.

Conversion rate improves (2 to 1) if you let your subscription lapse, redeem gamepass core (up to 3 years), and only then upgrade to ultimate.
