It's sad to see Raspberry Pi lose the plot. Even for $99 you're still looking at, what, another $10 for a PSU, $5 cooler, $20 case... oh, did you want to use NVMe storage? That'll be another $50 for a 512GB kit. The proliferation of dirt cheap N150 boxes has completely destroyed the value proposition here.

At this pricepoint, i would get one of the Intel N100/N150 miniboxes from Amazon -- their idle is about 6W to PI5 3-4W but they are extremely more powereful and come with a case, ram, hard drive etc for around $120...

People who still buy and promote this and don't use the GPIO pins or for whatever reason need something to be even smaller than a typical mini PC are honestly cultists at this point. When you look at responses to the absurdity of the new RPi pricing from the people on the raspberry_pi subreddit, it's obvious they really don't care about logic at this point.

I already own 1x RP4 (4GB) and 2x RP5 (4GB & 8GB). 16GB of RAM would be overkill for my purposes and I find it hard for any project aside from AI that's able to utilize every ounce of 16GB. Based on the price I paid for both RP5's which I bought from AliExpress (4GB = $60 and 8GB = $80), $100 for 16GB isn't a bad proposition all things considered. But I don't live nearby a MicroCenter so there's that.

My thoughts exactly. I thought the whole point of a raspberry pi was to be dirty cheap and low wattage, at the expense of being relatively low powered in terms of processing capabilities. These are fairly powerful boards compared to earlier models, and still efficient and flexible, but I think they've lost the original focus as newer units have become unnecessarily powerful and much pricier. This one in particular is kind of a tweener, not a cheap board you'd use to dedicate to one specific use, and not nearly as powerful as a full fledged traditional computer liked you might demand for a media center or something.
This is exactly why unless someone wants the ease of using GPIO, I typically just recommend them to look for a N100/150 package and get it over with.

WOW... I had such hopes for this device and I purchased one many years ago. And...unfortunately it sat in my draw most of the time.

I feel, no screen, the concept... you know a CHEAP CHEAP computer for the masses but I can get a more powerful tablet for less money!!! So what is the point!

I feel this is a tinker device and that is it. The only people who buy these are the true geeks and I still say it sits in the draw. I do understand that the Pi can do so many different things and a arm pc may not due such as a nook.

I still feel the pi has a life but they need to make two versions... a high end version for people who want to emulate and play games. I personally do not see the value in this for the regular person.

I think this is a cool project for a 6 year old... with a parent. But how many parents do you think buy this for a 6 year old project.

I don't understand their obsession with unusual standards. They still use mini-HDMI ports. They have USB-C for power, but use an extremely usual 5V - 5A standard that virtually no regular phone charger uses. So you have to buy their adapter. Also no 3.5mm jack - something previous models had so it should be feasible.
The only thing that the Raspberry Pi 5 has going for it is energy efficiency. But unless you're doing van life or something, nobody is going to notice the 15 watts or so difference at load.

I've enjoyed just about every edition of the Raspberry Pi over the years. Earlier this year when I needed another small form factor computer, I opted to try a Beelink over a RP5. It has better price to performance ratio, better specs, better cooling imo, and I didn't have to avoid scalpers to get MSRP.If case size isn't a priority and $100 for a Raspberry Pi seems high, give Beelink a try.(If anyone will use it as a server/docker manager, Coolify has been a good option for me.)
I presume you have the Intel Beelink?I have half a dozen of the Beelink GT1 & GS1 Android from 5yrs ago is like to repurpose is you have a suggestion.
