PNY is fine. You think other brands are better just because they rip you off and charge more than MSRP.

A similar PowerSpec had CL32 ram (G754), but unfortunately this one is CL36, so they raised the price by $100 and the ram is worse. IBuyPower / CyberPower with 9800x3d are usually CL38 (higher CL number is worse). PowerSpec usually had an advantage over IBuyPower/CyberPower and it still may but the value is less apparent. At this price point I probably will just build myself for much better quality parts. I'll be on the lookout for another month or so to see if a decent prebuilt pops up.

I updated my comment they downgraded the ram from CL32 (G754) to CL36 and raised the price by $100. They are ONLY using PNY for this model but with the prior you could get Gigabyte. With many components being worse than the previous build, can't recommend it. I guess this is a consequence of tariffs but didn't expect such big downgrades on pre-builts along with higher prices.

Edit: I'm sure it's fine for most people but I don't like paying more for a less performant build than the prior model.

The ram difference is leaving 1% performance on the table. Do pre-built buyers really care?

The 9800x3d cache does all the work the cl on the ram doesn't make much difference for these processors. CL 38 and CL 30 will perform almost identical in gaming. The only difference will be for benchmark chasers. Older AMD processors were very sensitive to memory so the stigma still exists.9800x3d just wants 6000mhz ddr5 as it's the sweet spot for this generation.

I was researching competitive gaming at 1080p, AI and online comments implied lower CAS latency (CL) RAM would make a difference. I figured if I'm getting a 9800x3d I should take advantage of it for competitive gaming but if you and the previous commenter think it wouldn't be noticeable then I imagine the build is fine. I'm more open to a pre-built if that's the case, I will see if there's any labor day sales, if there aren't maybe Black Friday which is closer to the Nvidia GPU refresh. Some articles claim Nvidia will be lowering GPU prices this month.

"While you would see a measurable increase in your average frames per second (FPS), the most significant benefit for a competitive player is the improvement in 1% low framerates. With CL38 RAM: Your average frame rate might be high, but you could experience occasional, subtle stutters or dips below your monitor's refresh rate (e.g., dipping from 280 FPS to 210 FPS).With CL30/CL28 RAM: Your average FPS will be slightly higher, but more importantly, those performance dips will be much less severe (e.g., only dropping to 240 FPS).For a competitive player on a 240Hz monitor, keeping the framerate consistently at or above 240 FPS is critical. This translates to a smoother, more "locked-in" feeling, reduced input lag, and a more predictable aiming experience"
