I keep bumping into these on sale and always tempted. Just got a MacBook m4 chip. Would this laptop be better in terms of productivity, portablability, quiet fans when using battery only?

I see some have intel. Others have and amd ryzen. Which one is better version of those processors from your experience?

Although I got the MacBook Air m4 it feels like I'm limiting my options since it can't do games due to no fans. Plus not used to the macOS.

OS preferences aside, productivity, portability, and battery performance go to the MBA over this. You decide if gaming is worth it or not, but don't expect miracles from an x50 class GPU.
Laptop CPUs are tricky. Technically Ryzen is better, but OEMs keep giving their best designs (chassis, screens, ports, etc) to Intel. Plus, most of the time you aren't going to notice much of a difference in CPU performance (amongst the same CPU class/spec) in a laptop. Thermals and power constraints will dictate performance more than anything else.

I got this last week open box for $435 in excellent condition. I am probably going to return it. Maybe gaming laptops are the same but the battery life is horrible, and it gets very hot if you try to use it on your laptop, and it is very difficult to pull the back cover off to upgrade ram and ssd (which is what is needed, ram at least)

Thank you. I appreciate input that helps me consider things I had not thought of.

A gaming laptop with 8GB RAM seems like an oxymoron. I don't understand why anyone would buy this computer in 2025. Will this halfheartedly play some less-demanding games? Sure. Will you be disappointed? Definitely. If you absolutely have to play video games but don't have 1,000 to spend on a laptop, first, reevaluate your life, and secondly, embrace poor decision-making and finance the other 500 to get a proper machine.
