You can adjust settings to hit 144hz in competitive games (where reducing graphical quality/resolution is a minor compromise) and enjoy 4k quality at a lower frame rate for single player/cinematic games.
And for many many older/indi titles, you can hit 4k/144hz (think Hades type content). And that is before considering modern resolution upscaling, which has gotten dang good and is most helpful for mid to low end cards.
Just some stuff to think about, I was a die hard 1440p monitor fan but my next monitor will be 4k, it's just a much more approachable resolution these days. Game on
