You can also go to a local library and check out a copy of the switch version and buy the Switch 2 upgrade from inside the game, to save a bit.

It is slickdeals after all.

So lots of potential mistakes: sadly I made all of them for switch 2.

CORRECTION - the 15 dollar digital deluxe is only available if you have switch 1 digital deluxe (so base plus dark arts) - so total of 19 dollars to upgrade it seems. Otherwise currently 10 base upgrade plus 14 for switch 2 dark arts pack so 24.

1. Do not buy switch 1 dark arts pack for 3.99 - unless you want to do digital deluxe upgrade for 15.
2. If you want dark arts pack on switch 2 do not do 10 dollar upgrade do the 15 dollar digital deluxe upgrade. If you do 10 dollar there is no way to do cheaper dark arts pack (even if you own it on switch 1).

So buy base game and 4 dollar dark arts and 15 dollar digital deluxe and save.

So I went through chat and then a phone call and got standard switch 1 dark arts pack refunded and standard switch 2 upgrade refunded BUT now the 15 dollar digital deluxe upgrade is gone... so the 15 dollar digital deluxe isn't an option for switch 1 base game without dark arts pack.

I have switch 1, any reason why I shouldn't get this game? Seems like a fun, easy-going game.

Thanks for this, sorry you had to experience it yourself.

This is a fun, open world game, especially if you or your kids are into Harry Potter. I played on the Xbox Series X. If I hadn't already played it, this is a great price to buy at.

Can you use the physical copy, then buy a Switch 2 upgrade using the physical copy and have the switch 2 version be all digital? I'm not sure I'm following how to use a physical Switch copy to get a digital full copy of the Switch 2 game?

I've seen this trick talked about before. It apparently gives you the full Switch 2 version when you do this.

How is Switch 2 version compared to PS5/X/PC? The Switch 1 version was rough.

As others have mentioned, this is a great way to get the Switch 2 version for an extra $10 vs buying the Switch 2 version outright. Note that you do have to load the Switch version and access the "upgrade path" from within the original Switch versions menu. Or at least that's how I had to do it. Perhaps they've streamlined that since I bought it.

The game itself is fun, has a moderately enjoyable story, fun combat that can be fairly varied, and is quite a good looking game on Switch 2. I played it originally on an Xbox Series S and despite what Digital Foundry says, I think the Switch 2 version looks damn near as good. I think this is owed to the fact that DF pixel peeps and when you're just playing the game, you don't see the stuff they're talking about. I think you can absolutely do a lot worse than dropping $22 on a game with as much content as this provides. Definitely recommended.

IGN doesnt have the best review for the Switch 1 version.

Hogwarts Legacy is Close to Unplayable on the Switch 1

Before booting up Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch 2, I replayed through the first hours on the original Switch to see how it ran, and the result was pretty awful. This thing runs like a wounded animal, with extremely low-rez characters and environments, unstable framerates, and extremely long load times every time you fast travel.
