This is what Jiffy Lube uses on your oil drain bolt. Seriously this is overkill for most home mechanics. You can strip car lug nuts with this beast. but useful for rusted suspension bolts or taking off Honda crank bolts for timing belt change with a weighted socket.

We used a version of this to change the bolds holding on the front shock absorber and 1/2 the bots on the sway bar a month ago. $1200 quote vs. $250 in parts from Rockauto and about 3.5 hours of work...and still driving fine one month later.

I was comparing the specs between this and the friction ring high torque. I wonder if this is a better option since it has a lot more IPM's per minute, even though the FT-LBS rating is less. It's also shorter in length and weighs 0.5 lb less than the friction ring.

Stuff like that makes it pretty easy to justify dropping $100-300 on a tool

Do you think this is too much to carry on hand to change out truck or trailer tires on the side of the road or boat ramp? I'm saltwater based so I was thinking extra torque might be nice for the stubborn trailer bolts that eventually rust

NO. Just turn it down to 1 or 2 to tighten. It will break ANYTHING loose you could throw at it. The mid torque won't break large truck or seized lugs loose. I own multiples of both.

If you use a lower speed settings, like one or two will that be OK for lug nuts without stripping?

So is it safe to use the settings one or two to loosen up lug nuts or anything that seized to prevent the bolt from stripping?I own the highest torque one for $191 from the other deal.

Setting 1 is likely too weak. Setting 2 is likely too strong. Either way, you'd still want to use a torque wrench. So zip on with setting 1 and torque it with a torque wrench. That's usually what I do. The settings are NOT repeatable or accurate enough to rely on though.

Start low, go higher if it won't break loose.

For your last example, this thing is on the edge of usability. I did the same job and my 1050 ft lbs impact barely did the job after about 20 seconds. I'd feel much safer with the 2967 model over this weaker 2966 impact
