MB for setting off error alerts - skimmed it and didn't see it :|

Does match the FP deal from earlier this month at Newegg/Amazon though.

I'm just starting to learn about these drives. does anyone know if this has the dram on it? I'm not sure what I'm looking for when I read the specs, but I don't see dram mentioned so I assume not...

Def not even on the higher end of the gen 5 ssds tbh but it would probably be a decent drive to throw in a tb4/usb4 (or other usb/tb) enclosure....

A lot of motherboards only can accomodate one full speed gen 5 NVME + 16 lanes for the gpu at the same time and the rest are gen 4 speeds so i really don't see any other use for it imo ... If i'm gonna blow a bunch of money on a gen 5 NVME drive i might as well get

I mean the 2TB 9100 pro from samsung is 189 at best buy rn... i realize that's quite a bit more money but it has dram and 14700 megabytes per second read speed (and the write speeds aren't far behind)

Just a situation where your'e already spending a lot of money for something so it seems light you're throwing it in the trash if you don't get the good one imo ..

DRAM won't make a noticeable difference to most people. Gen 5 won't either. What I generally suggest looking for is a drive that uses TLC NAND and doesn't use a problematic controller (like certain Innogrit or Realtek models). I think one of the best deals that tends to come around is the 2TB MSI Spatium M482. There are numerous good (though often not as cheap) drives from WD and Samsung.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank hazardc

I'm generally a fan of crucial drives and samsung drives. I have a lot of samsung NVME drives ranging in age from 2 weeks to 5 years without any failures or issues (including a raid 0 array in my nas that should be using U.2 drives the samsungs are holding up fine after 4 years of absolute torture.

I also agree that gen 5 drives aren't going to benefit most people .... I edit video daily ... both of the workstations in front of me have 9950x3d/128GB DDR5 6000/RTX5090/ etc

They are gross overkill for 99% of the population

No direct experience with it maybe someone else who bought it can help with that .. tom's hardware seemed to like it and they haven't steered me wrong so far with their reviews for other pc components

They are good drives, just make sure to update it. They had an issue that degraded and slowed down as it got full or something. I never experienced it, but updated the firmware to be safe.

I have two SK hynix Platinum P41 drives, and both experienced the write speed slowdown. The firmware update has thus far fixed it. Unknown yet if this is a permanent fix or if it will slow down again over time. I also have two of the predecessor drives (Solidigm P44 Pro). Those have the same issue, but since Solidigm is no longer, there is no firmware update. However, they are still under warranty and they are refunding the drives.

All that said, I would just go straight for a WD SN850X or a Samsung 990 Pro.

WD SN850X or a Samsung 990 Pro are my favorite drives if you can find them at a good price is what I recommend the most.
