Good question. They have a common progressive story line so some of everspace 2 doesn't make as much sense without the first. But as far as the game play they are very different games. Everspace 2 is more of a progressive space shooter adventure with missions, trading, side quests and progressive sectors to explore. It's more similar to old wing commander of free space games, while everspace one, while the flight and combat are similar in a lot of ways, it's progression and archetype is rogue like very similar to FTL if you have played that.

I really enjoyed everspace as a space shooter roguelike. Great deal for $1.

Is it worth just skipping to Everspace 2?

Depends what you're looking for. Everspace 2 is more of a conventional universal flight sim (think Elite, Freelancer, etc). Everspace 1 is more of a flight-sim lite because of the roguelite elements--it has to compact the whole experience into an hour long playthrough because you'll always die/restart from scratch at the end.

I got about 40-50 hours out of E1 before I "beat" it, which was definitely worth the dollar I paid for it (past sale). Once you get over the initial disappointment that it's not the Freelancer experience you might have wanted, it is at least interesting as its own thing. But I suppose if modern Freelancer is all you really want, you could skip directly to Everspace 2.

Everspace 1 if you want a challenging rougelike space shooter. Everspace 2 for a full-fledged open world RPG space sim.

Are these games through Steam? GMG? Or their own independent file?

It varies by game, but usually Steam. It shows on the product page what platform it is.https://i.imgur.com/DiRSTPk.png

I can vouch for Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 3, both really good games for next to nothing

There are some really good games in the $5 and under range. Make sure you are logged into your account if you are currently subscribed to the monthly subscription.

Dungeon Siege Collection all 3 games for $2.86, come on that is crazy. If you like old school top down RPG looter ala Diablo then these are that.
