Hmm, not sure if I should get this now or wait until it's $20. I do still enjoy the Assassin's Creed games. They're like basic comfort food.

Users are closer to 60%, and from what I recall Ubisoft was fudging the launch success.

Metacritic user scores are garbage. OpenCritic and Steam reviews put it ~80% or Mostly-to-Very Positive reviews.
OP asked if it was an objectively good game, controversy aside. So remove the BS user reviews that have anything to do with the game being "too woke" or general anti-Ubisoft sentiments and yes, it is an objectively good game.

Steam reviews are for PC not PS5 and Xbox. I find user reviews much better. And it is okay if someone doesn't like the game because they don't like certain content they find objectionable. The game was very offensive to the Japanese culture and I think that's where most the controversy comes from. It may not have bothered you or some critics but it obviously bothered some.
