Lack of mouth needs to be paired with cuteness, like Hello Kitty's Sanrio highly lucrative licensing contracts. Or paired with ugliness like Labubu's "ultra trendy", "super exclusive", lottery system chaser marketing strategy.

Funko is NOT cute nor ugly, it's just boring.
Labubu is Pop Mart's only hit. They made it big through many factors, including a lottery system of special designs as you mentioned. But, they also used a lot of celebrity endorsements both at home and abroad, including well known celebrities in the US. That helped a lot. When was the last time you saw a similar item endorsed by numerous high profile celebrities?
