I've wanted a kayak for a while to take out on a local river, primarily as exercise/recreation. It seems every time I see a deal on here for one people comment saying it's a slow clunker that's only good for sitting in place and fishing. I don't have the slightest idea what to look for to be able to tell what sort of kayak would fit my needs, but this seems like a decent deal and reviews are good so I might take a chance on it.

Why not buy and give it a try? who know you maybe a natural at this and zip through the rapids. If not you always have the option to swim with the fishes.

Perfectly fine. I have put many miles on this one, on local lake, going down the creek, and even slightly choppy water in the bay behind Fennwick Island, DE. I'm sure you can find far fancier and faster.
Maybe look in local stores e.g. Dick's https://www.dickssportinggoods.co...g100xkypsk

At a lake house with a smattering of visitors who bring along small portable kayaks and after sampling them, my preference is the Old Town Dirigo 106.

It probably is a lot more expensive, but it is the least tippy of the ones I have been able to try out.

We just went through this after trying to find some decent used ones on Facebook Marketplace, but gave up and ended up going to a local store that had surprisingly decent prices.

They did sell Pelican stuff as their entry level gear, but the quality of the seats, foot rests, and side padding for your knees was pretty basic. It's probably fine if you're going to be doing some light paddling around for an hour.

We ended up getting something a little bit nicer, but nothing fancy. We decided on an Old Town Heron 9xt and a Perception Sound 10.5 for ~$500 each with two Carlisle Magic Mystic paddles for $49 each. We've used them twice already and they were light enough to easily transport on top of the car and were pretty comfortable to use for a couple of hours at a time.
