Doesn't have to be nearby. You just lie about your zip code at the start of the chat when they ask. Then when you actually order they don't retroactively check. Signed, person from a state with no microcenter.

Nothing to see here. Everyday Apple EDU price. Same price at Bestbuy unless you have a Microcenter nearby to pricematch to $450.

My daily driver desktop since it was released. Love the thing. It fixed all the headaches I had with Windows. It is stable and can go months without needing a reboot so it's perfect for running a Plex server in addition to all the normal computer tasks you can do. You do need to factor additional storage into the price. I spent $99 for an OWC thunderbolt SSD enclosure and $250 for a 4TB WD 850X to make sure I had plenty of storage.

To utilize the external drive as your additional storage, go to Users in Settings, right click on your username, and change the Home directory to your external drive (will need a reboot and reinitialize your desktop settings). Then, go to the App Store and select your external drive to store all large apps.

No tax in FL makes a difference. Do you know why? It ships from Amazon and it is sold by Amazon.com which usually does charge taxes.

Microcenter = 449.99 + tax = $481.49
Amazon = $499 - (Get 6% back with your Prime Visa) = $469.06

(And yes, of course I will declare sales taxes if it is my personal obligation, etc...)
I don't get how you are getting these numbers. It isn't 2013 anymore. Amazon collects sales tax in every state except the ones that don't have a sales tax.

Also it's further misleading because you say yourself you are going to remit the sales tax to your government so it should be included in the figure.

So just taking my sales tax for example (6%) it would essentially cancel out the sales tax and still cost 500 bucks. Not 470.

Microcenter is cheaper.

Amazon accounts for Florida's sales tax holiday for this month. It doesn't add tax on computers or computer peripherals under $1500.

Not difficult, I got it from my checkout page in amazon.com.
We kinda know it is not 2013, and we know about Amazon usually charging taxes in every state, hence the question. Thank you for your reply... I guess?

If you really care to know why: poster below pointed to FL's sales tax holiday as the reason. Have a great day.

Well if that guy is in Florida and that is what he's using then he should have stated that but regardless a one off holiday in a particular state isn't really indictive of the reality of the deal for the vast majority of people. My state for example doesn't include computers etc on the tax free back to school tax holiday this month.

Tempted to get one to connect to a 98" Tv. Anyone know if this needs HDMi 2.1 or will 2.0 suffice?

I have been trying to figure out what type of system to use as a plex server that is low power consumption. This may be just the thing I need to get, but where I would put it already has an Apple TV 4K and Nvidia shield pro. Almost feels a little redundant having the server and client connected to the same display

M4 has an upgradable SSD !
Kinda sorta. As Mac SSDs don't have an integrated controller on the SSD itself; it requires a very specific memory upgrade and a second Mac to initialize the new SSD.
Another way to go is:
Beelink Mate Mini-A for Mac mini M4 Dock. Which supports Thunderbolt 5, 80 Gbps

Just following up on another user's question about where you traded in? Thank you!
Directly through apple. If you go on their site you can choose "trade in" when checking out and after a few questions they will let you know the value of your trade in.

Looks like Amazon's policy is not to price match anymore, but in practice do they make exceptions?

I have always hated how Apple rapes you if you want more memory. Memory is so dang cheap yet they have so little memory & naturally difficult or impossible to increase it…. Definitely a love hate relationship with Apple!
