You're not wrong, but they are only meant to be eaten during longer runs or intense workouts (and if you need a burst of sugar for whatever medical reason). If you're eatting them outside those scenarios, then yeah its a waste of money. There is a carb chew/gel market for runners and <$1.50/serving is a decent price.

I remember running a half marathon in vegas and tried the running gel for the very first time. It was awful. Never again will I consume energy gels. My stomach felt so off for the second half of the run. Big mistake...Fruit chews, candy, or sports drink from now on.
