same rate at hotel direct, and cheaper using 3p site like TripAdvisor.

this is fair, but not a deal.

I've been watching my friends vacation there just this past week. They seemed to be having a great time, even with kids. Most 1st world "problem cities" issues are overblown by media trying to scare you all into being agoraphobic.

Always better to go direct. Using a 3rd party site can cause huge problems if anything changes. Learned that the hard way with booking.com.

I haven't checked, but it wouldn't surprise me if this hotel is part of AMEX's Fine Hotels and Resorts. If you have Platinum, you can get $200 back and usually some extras. That's apparently rising to $300 in Sep, semi-annually, along with a higher annual cost for the card.

What part of NYC are you from.... πŸ‘€. As someone who worked downtown next to the Bowery shelter. Whose hotel was physically attached to it. It's overblown. I parked right infront of it everyday and never had someone even leaning on my car. It's a city of 8 million shit happens crazies gonna crazy but its not unsafe.

it's definitely NOT always better to book direct with the hotel... this is a a common misconception. Airlines? YES! hotels? not so much, and depends on many things. The main one being is prepayment - booking hotels on 3p sites in FULL with no canx allowed - then hotel direct is better. I still don't know why this deal is getting upvoted but to each their own 🀷
