i just started playing d&d with some friends for the first time this year.. really enjoying it but my gosh it's like trying to learn a second language as an adult, there's so much to learn

I highly suggest any kind of dungeon synth. Fief is a good starting place, I think he's up to 5 volumes or so now. The out of season record lable is full of this stuff but can be overwhelming to navigate so try Fief.
