Illy ground coffee's have 2 grind variants, this one is espresso which is super fine. They have another version of the same ground beans that is for drip, FYI. You could use this in drip but it won't taste the same as it's meant for espresso preparation.

Illy ground coffee's have 2 grind variants, this one is espresso which is super fine. They have another version of the same ground beans that is for drip, FYI. You could use this in drip but it won't taste the same as it's meant for espresso preparation.

Yea, I tried this variety last year in my Krups auto drip and I was very underwhelmed. It was smooth but had very little flavor. I had Illy at a friends house 20 years ago, and I swore it was the best coffee I ever tasted!

If you have an Amazon Fresh grocery store near you they carry Illy's ground version that is meant for auto drip. They look almost the same on the outside can but it will not say espresso preparation on it.

This is a step up from Lavazza in terms of taste. Sadly it is only found in ground form. As far as splurges go, this is a cheap one even if it costs twice as much per ounce as I pay for Lavazza. Might last me a week or two.

Pre-ground coffee go bad rather quick after opening (vs whole beans) so keep that in mind. This will do in a pinch but bean-to-cup is the way to go for espresso.
