From what I can find, your Delta Amex just needs to be linked to your skymiles and skymiles needs to be used for the flight reservation. You dont actually have to pay for your flight with the card. So you could use a deal like this for gift cards + still get your free checked bag from the Amex reddit link [reddit.com]

This deal is notably not a Target Circle deal, which automatically tie their bonus Target gift cards to (and require) a Target Circle account to use.

If you need to check a luggage, the Delta American Express card is a better deal than gift cards. Every passenger gets a free checked luggage with the AmEx card. I learned that the hard way a couple years back when I bought discounted gift cards.

The Delta official site says that you can use max of 5 gift cards online, but you can use more than 5 gift cards by calling Delta. I was able to use 10 gift cards (our wedding gifts) in the past when I booked our honeymoon flight over the phone. What they did was that they "converted" gift cards to Delta eCredit, and used them for our flight.

I have never done this, but technically when you cancel the flight, which was booked using gift cards, after 24 hours of booking, it will be refunded as Delta eCredit. If you cancel the flight within 24 hours, it will be refunded to the original gift card.

I think you can buy multiple in separate transactions. Likely, I will be paying part gift card and part Amex for my flights to take advantage of this. The only downside I think is you can't earn MQDs from gift cards

Combine that with $15 GC for two qualified $60 purchases. $85 in GC

I assume you can only cancel (fully) refundable flights after 24 hours...
